At Frito-Lay we’re committed to providing a safe and fair workplace for our associates as we recognize that their well-being is key to our future success.

Regarding the recent tweet from More Perfect Union, we wish to restate the following:

  • It is correct that Mr. Ingram was exposed to an electric shock while at work at Frito-Lay in 2016.
  • The company immediately implemented the process that follows health incidents, and he was provided medical treatment and monitoring.
  • Mr. Ingram was provided with benefits when medical experts determined he could no longer work.
  • Though medical experts disagree over whether certain of his conditions are work-related, Mr. Ingram remains eligible for, and is currently receiving, benefits for so long as he is unable to work.

Most recently the company made a settlement offer that was in line with recommendations made by officials who have mediated the case.  That settlement offer was made in addition to medical claims that the company has already paid and the benefits that Mr. Ingram has received and will continue to receive. Unfortunately, the settlement offer was declined.  Mr. Ingram is represented by legal counsel, and the parties are continuing active settlement discussions.

We stand by our commitment to ensure the safety of our employees and we are making efforts to not only remedy this situation, but also prevent similar incidents.  Finally, any suggestion that PepsiCo is involved in surveillance of the Ingram family is false and we suggest that they involve law enforcement if they have concerns.

This matter has been mediated through the Missouri Workers' Compensation courts. In September of this year an offer was conveyed to Brandon Ingram and his family which Pepsico believes is a generous offer, and is in line with the recommendations made by officials which have mediated this matter. Unfortunately this offer was declined by the Ingram family. That settlement offer was made in addition to medical claims that Pepsico has already paid along with disability benefits.

At Frito-Lay we’re committed to providing a safe and fair workplace for our associates as we recognize that their well-being is key to our future success.

Regarding Brandon Ingram’s video, we can share that:

  • He was exposed to an electric shock while at work at Frito-Lay in 2016.
  • We immediately implemented the process that follows health incidents and he was provided medical treatment and monitoring.
  • He was provided with short-term and long-term disability benefits when medical experts determined he could no longer work.
  • Though medical experts disagree over whether certain of his conditions are work-related, Brandon Ingram remains eligible for, and is currently receiving, benefits under Frito-Lay’s long-term disability program for so long as he is unable to work.

We understand that navigating the process of applying for workers’ compensation and disability benefits can be frustrating, and we are continuously looking for ways to improve the experience. Moreover,  we care very much about our associates, and when concerns are raised, we take them seriously as a company and address them.
