March 7, 2016
PLANO, Texas, March 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Doritos, one of the flagship brands from PepsiCo's Frito-Lay division, today launched a new campaign inviting the boldest of fans to set 50 bold records throughout 2016. On the heels of the final installment of its iconic "Crash the Super Bowl" advertising campaign, Doritos has once again put control in the hands of consumers with Bold 50, a year-long program celebrating Doritos' 50th anniversary.
The program challenges the boldest fans in the world to be part of 50 world records with Doritos during 2016. The first record was set on Sunday, February 7 as 22 people participated in the "Tallest Suspended Football Party." The Doritos fans were suspended by a crane more than 13 stories above the ground (at exactly 137 feet) with a once-in-a-lifetime view of Levi's Stadium.
"Doritos fans have a thirst to experience life to the fullest. We recruited the boldest of the bold to make their mark in history," said Jeannie Cho, vice president, Frito-Lay marketing. "Their world record kicks off Bold 50, a continuation of the Doritos 'For the Bold' campaign launched in 2013. That campaign – and this extension - continues the Doritos brand's legacy of empowering its fans to seize the moment and live boldly. That legacy has included us doing everything from letting fans create our television commercials to fans controlling the Doritos BoldStage at SXSW with only their Tweets."
The record is just the first in 50 records to be set this year by the brand's boldest fans. All records will be verified by RecordSetter.com – the Las Vegas-based world record organization founded on a belief that everyone can be the world's best at something.
Examples of other records that could be broken include:
- Highest Location to Eat Doritos chips – Fans are challenged to take their Doritos bags to new heights around the globe.
- Tallest House of Cards Built Using Doritos – Construct a pyramid of Doritos chips.
- Farthest Doritos chips tossed in mouth. Be sure to measure the distance of your throw.
