PLANO, Texas, Feb. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In celebration of Black History Month, PepsiCo's Frito-Lay North America division is asking consumers to vote for their favorite art submission in the "Create to Celebrate" Black History Month art contest. The contest, which kicked off in early January, encouraged consumers to submit an original piece of art celebrating African American achievement in Black History. The grand prize winner will take home $10,000; second prize $5,000, and third prize $2,500. For every eligible consumer vote received, Frito-Lay will donate $1 to the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) for a $20,000 maximum donation.
From now until March 1, eligible fans, 13 years of age and older, can vote once a day for their favorite "Create to Celebrate" Black History Month art contest entry by visiting www.celebratecommunityarts.com. The top-25 entries to receive the most online votes will become finalists. The winners, which will be announced on or around March 27, will be selected from the finalist entries by a Frito-Lay judging panel based on artistic talent, creativity and Black History Month relevance.
"It's been inspiring to see the level of creativity and artistic expression around Black History Month that has been displayed in the first phase of the 'Create to Celebrate' Black History Month art contest," said Haston Lewis, senior director of marketing, Frito-Lay North America. "Now consumers have the opportunity to help us give back to UNCF. With every vote, consumers will be supporting the educational needs of artists and students across the nation."
UNCF is the nation's largest and most effective minority education organization. To serve youth, the community and the nation, UNCF supports students' education and development through scholarships and other programs, strengthens its 37 member colleges and universities, and advocates for the importance of minority education. UNCF institutions and other historically black colleges and universities are highly effective, awarding 21 percent of African American baccalaureate degrees. UNCF administers more than 400 programs, including scholarship, internship and fellowship, mentoring, summer enrichment, and curriculum and faculty development programs. Today, UNCF supports more than 60,000 students at over 900 colleges and universities across the country.
